The New
Testament Apocrypha consists of gospels and epistles which were written under
the name of an apostle or of a well-known leader. Some fifteen of these
extra-canonical books have been listed: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles,
The Epistle of Barnabas, The First Epistle of Clement, the Second Epistle of
Clement, The Shepherd of Hermas, The Apocalypse of Peter, The Acts of Paul,
including Paul and Thecla, The Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians, The
Seven Epistles of Ignatius, The Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew, The Protevangelium of
James, The Gospel of the Nativity of Mary, The Gospel of Nicodemus, The Gospel
of the Saviour’s Infancy, and the History of Joseph the Carpenter.
