A DISPENSATIONAL THEOLOGY

“There
is none good but God,” (Matthew 19:17),
declared the Lord Jesus. Goodness is a very broad term. It might be used to
cover all of the attributes of God, for they are all good. Here it is limited
to those aspects of God’s character which cause God to communicate Himself to
the undeserving sinner: the Love of God, the Mercy of God, and the Grace of
God. There was, and is, of course, mutual love between the Persons of the
Godhead, so that love is not limited in its operation to sinful creatures.
However, it would seem that mercy and grace could only be manifested toward the
needy and the undeserving.
