A DISPENSATIONAL THEOLOGY

This argument
is similar to the Cosmological in that it is a posteriori, arguing from
particulars back to principle, from effect to cause. But whereas the Cosmological
has to do primarily with the existence of the universe, the Teleological has to
do with the quality or character of the Universe. It is often called the
argument from design. The various things and objects which make up the universe
appear to have been made to fulfill a purpose, to accomplish a certain end.
There seems to be some intelligence or mind behind the creation, so that we are
driven one step further than the Cosmological argument took us, from simply a
sufficiently powerful Cause for the existence of all things to a Cause which is
intelligent and purposeful, and therefore personal.
