A DISPENSATIONAL THEOLOGY

The first
three arguments are by far the most easily understood and the most generally
accepted. The Ontological is difficult to grasp and its validity has been denied
by many theologians and meta- physicians. Chafer remarks that Shedd, in his
treatment of this one argument, used two-thirds of the whole space given to theistic
proofs, while Bishop R. S. Foster declares that he had never caught the meaning
or the force of the argument. Anselm (11th century) was supposedly the first to
enunciate this argument. It has been a favorite with many metaphysicians, including
Descartes and Spinoza.
