Whereas
the Bible teaches that God is not only in all (1 Corinthians 15:28) but is also over all (Romans 9:5), Pantheism teaches that God is only in
all. That is, Christianity holds to both the Immanence and the
Transcendence of God, but Pantheism, by making the Universe to be God, must
deny that God exists apart from and over the Universe. Naturalistic
Pantheism teaches that matter, the material universe, is God and is
therefore eternal and is the cause of all life and mind. Idealistic
Pantheism denies any real existence to the material universe, identifying
God as the sum-total of mind or spirit. Christian Science, as a religion, falls
into this category. Space forbids further treatment of the subject, other than to
state some of the main objections to this philosophy.
