Hume and Kant
have been the chief critics of this argument also. Hume claimed that the
Teleological argument, if valid, would not prove that God is either infinite or
perfect. We have no proof that the universe is infinite, and therefore it would
not require an infinite Creator, and we have no way of knowing that this
present universe is the best possible one; in fact, after dealing with the unpleasant
features of nature and of human beings, Hume concluded that one would be hard
pressed to believe that the world was designed by either a very wise or a very
good planner.
