3. Grace. Whereas mercy is God’s attitude toward those in distress, grace is His attitude toward those who are ungodly and sinful. It will be noticed that in the apostolic salutations, grace always precedes mercy (1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:2, etc.).
