The Nicene
Creed did not adopt any definite statement concerning the Holy Spirit. A second
council was called in 375 A.D. to meet in Constantinople. It adopted the
so-called Athanasian Creed, which added the following words to the Nicene
statement about the Holy Spirit:
We believe in the Holy Ghost who is the Lord and giver of life, who proceedeth
from the Father, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and
glorified, who spoke by the prophets.7
