Theology Proper: 18 THE BIBLICAL VIEW OF GOD
A DISPENSATIONAL THEOLOGY
By Charles F Baker
This
definition includes both the substance or essence of God’s Being and His attributes.
Theologians differ in their understanding of what constitutes essence and
attributes. Thiessen, for example, states that some of the so-called attributes
are not attributes at all, strictly speaking, but are “different aspects of the
divine substance.’’2 He
includes spirituality, self-existence, immensity, and eternity as aspects of
the Divine essence.

C. Thiessen, Systematic Theology (Grand Rapids: Win. B. Eerdmans Publishing
Co., 1951), p. 119.
