the fourth century such men as Eusebius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Athanasius, Chrysostom,
Jerome, and Augustine bear witness to the fact that the 27 books of the New
Testament were universally recognized as canonical. Jerome’s famous Latin
Vulgate translation which has been the New Testament of the Roman Catholic
Church contains the same 27 books which comprise the Protestant New Testament.
