The Inauguration of the Covenant. Exodus 24:1-8 cf.
Hebrews 9:16-22.
A
covenant sacrifice was offered which was never to be repeated. As yet there was
no priesthood in Israel. Moses, the mediator of the covenant, not Aaron, had young
men kill the sacrifices and then he sprinkled the blood on the people after reading
the covenant to them, saying: “Behold the blood of the covenant which the Lord
hath made with you concerning all these words.” All of this is highly typical
of the Person and work of Christ, as reflected in the book of Hebrews. Christ,
as the Mediator of the New Covenant, not as High-priest, offered Himself without
spot to God. This aspect of His work made a provision of salvation for all mankind.
