Revelation
refers to the initial making known of truth previously hidden. Once a truth has
been revealed and written in Scripture, there is no need that it be revealed
again. But the fact that God has revealed truth does not mean that every one
perceives or understands it. In fact, Scripture is very plain that the natural
mind of man does not receive and cannot know the things of the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:14). This same passage teaches that God
has given us His Spirit, so that we might know the things which are freely
given us of God. This work of the Spirit of God in making known to the
individual the things which God has prepared for them that love Him is called
Illumination.
