Psalm 40 (14 of 17 notes)

The Treasury of David
by Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

14. Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soulto destroy it. Whether we read this as a prayer or a prophecy it matters not, for the powers of sin, and death, and hell, may well be ashamed as they see the result of their malice forever turned against themselves. It is to the infinite confusion of Satan that his attempt to destroy the Saviour destroyed himself; the Lord Jesus has turned the diabolical wisdom into foolishness. Let them be driven backward and put to shame thatwish me evil. The hosts of darkness are utterly put to the rout, and made a theme for holy derision forever. The Crucified has conquered; the Son of Man has become hell’s destruction.
