The textual
critic has formulated certain principles or rules by which he forms his
judgments as to which of the variant readings is the true one. Price lists 12 rules
which he has taken from Schaff’s Introduction to the American edition of Westcott
and Hort’s New Testament in Greek:
(1) The critic must be a trained scholar having a general knowledge of
what must be looked for in order to make a choice of readings.
