Historical Criticism (4 of 4 notes)

Part One
INTRODUCTION: 5 CONTEMPORARY THEOLOGY
A DISPENSATIONAL THEOLOGY
By Charles F Baker

Orr further states:
On the other hand, a new and intensely aggressive radical school has recently come to the front, the so-called ‘historical-critical,’ which treats the text and history of the Gospels generally with a recklessness to which no limits can be put. It is even doubted if Jesus claimed to be the Messiah (Wrede). Sayings are accepted, rejected, or mutilated at pleasure.3
Orr expressed the belief that “these excesses may be depended on to cure themselves,” but since his day Historical Criticism has gone to even greater excesses.
