During a halftime pep talk to his
discouraged team, Coach Vince Lombardi held up a pigskin and said, “This is a
football.” Their performance had been so dismal that he had to take them back
to square one. He knew what all competent people have to know: If you want to
succeed, you have to know and master the basics.
